Alpine gem hut – our multifaceted jewel
A little below our sun terrace lies our alpine gem hut. Originally a small chapel, we can also convert it to a dormitory that sleeps 15 people. The first sight you see in the morning through the large windows is an unforgettable view of the imposing mountains surrounding the location. You will never forget your stay here.

How do I get to the restaurant?
Our restaurant can only be reached by gondola.
In summer also on foot (approx. 3h from the village).
You can find the gondola timetables at www.jungfrau.ch.
Our opening hours are linked to the travel times.
Our warm kitchen closes 1h earlier.
Smoking
All First buildings are made partially of wood, so smoking is strictly prohibited on all of the premises! This no-smoking rule is for your own safety.
Do you have Wi-Fi?
The Jungfrau Railway Wi-Fi is available throughout the premises.
Are dogs allowed in the restaurant?
Yes, dogs are very welcome.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
You can check in from 2 p.m. onwards. Latest check-out time is 10.30 a.m.
How do I get to the hotel?
You can only reach our mountain inn by the Firstbahn gondola lift. Transport is not included in the price of your room. You will find the operating schedule for the gondola cableway at www.jungfrau.ch. It is a trip of about 20 minutes on the gondola and you can be here, enjoying the beautiful mountains.
If you come to Grindelwald by car, we recommend that you park in the Pfingstegg long-term car park. It is about 7 minutes’ walk from the Firstbahn.
If you arrive by train, it is a walk of 15 minutes or so from the train station to the Firstbahn, through the beautiful glacier village of Grindelwald.
Does the hotel have Wi-Fi?
We provide free Wi-Fi for our hotel guests.
What is included in the price of the room?
We supply duvets, pillows and towels at no charge.
Our prices also include visitor’s tax and tourism levy.
Get the Grindelwald guest card when you arrive. With it,
you can get discounts on many of the attractions.
Can I temporarily store my luggage here after checking out?
We are sure we will manage to store your luggage temporarily. Just ask us!
Can I do my own cooking?
No, we have no cooking facilities for our guests.
When are the mealtimes?
Breakfast is always between 7.30 a.m. and 10 a.m.
We can serve dinner from 6.30 p.m. onwards.
What are the shower facilities like?
We have shared bathrooms, one for men and one for women, each with 3 shower cabins.
Can I make a reservation by telephone?
We recommend making your booking by email or via our website so that there are no misunderstandings.
Are dogs allowed in the hotel?
Yes, dogs are very welcome – a small extra charge of CHF 10.00 will be due.
Terms and conditions
SUBJECT MATTER OF THE CONTRACT
These terms and conditions govern the legal relationship between you and Berggasthaus First GmbH. The booking confirmation sent to you by email serves as the basis for this.
OPTIONS
Option dates are binding for both parties. After the option period expires, provided the customer has not confirmed, Berggasthaus First GmbH shall automatically have the reserved rooms at its disposal.
CANCELLATIONS OF HOTEL RESERVATIONS
We request that you inform us in writing as early as possible of any significant changes to your reservation. Up until 15 days before your date of arrival, you can cancel your reservation at no charge; if you cancel between day 14 and day 8, we charge 50% of the room rate; if you cancel seven days or less beforehand, we charge 100%. In the event of bad weather, up until three days before your date of arrival, you can postpone your stay at no charge.
LIABILITY/DUTY OF CARE
The hotel room and the common areas are to be used with the greatest care by the guest. The guest must pay for any property damage that may occur. The hotel refuses to accept any liability for theft, etc., or in relation to the services of third parties.
LOST AND FOUND ITEMS
Lost and found items shall only be forwarded on request by the guest. Berggasthaus First GmbH assumes no liability in the case of lost personal belongings or valuables. This applies both to the period of the stay and when items are being returned. The guest bears the costs and the risk when items are forwarded.
APPLICABLE LAW, PLACE OF JURISDICTION
The legal relationship between you and Berggasthaus First GmbH is subject to Swiss law. Thun is stipulated as the place of jurisdiction.
